Amelia Bird is a Designer and Director specialising in visual theatre. 

 

Amelia is a freelance artist, previously working with London Bubble Theatre on their programme of socially engaged theatre projects for children. Prior to that she was the Artistic Director of touring theatre company Gomito Productions.

Design

Amelia has designed shows for theatres including Oxford Playhouse, Reading Rep, ARC Stockton, Barnsley Civic, Greenwich Theatre and Cambridge Junction and companies including Filskit Theatre, Tortoise in a Nutshell and Mac's Arcadian.

 

Her work was exhibited at the Prague Quadrennial in 2019, she won a Design Excellence Award at Montenegro's Kotor Children's Theatre Festival in 2017 and with Tortoise in a Nutshell won a Fringe First Award for 'Feral' in 2013.

She is an experienced puppetmaker and often creates immersive sets and installations. 

Direction & Dramaturgy

Amelia specialises in directing untraditional theatre processes, including devised theatre, community and participatory theatre projects. 

She has been commissioned by Greenwich Theatre, Cambridge Junction, The Gulbenkian Theatre, The Old Market, Arts Depot, Norwich and Norfolk Festival, Forward Theatre Project and the National Theatre's Watch This Space Festival. She has also directed devising processes for a number of independent theatremakers.

As Artistic Director of Gomito Productions she led an artistic programme of theatre shows, artist development and community participation projects.
